SB 987,
the “Marijuana Value Tax Act,” which would levy a 15% sales tax on medical
cannabis sold in California, was today approved by the California Senate
Appropriations Committee and now goes into the Appropriations “suspense” file
from which it must be taken by May 27th and sent to the floor of the
Senate for consideration, according to Kerrie Lindecker, Communications
Director for California State Senator Mike McGuire, a Democratic legislator who
represents the area that produces more cannabis than any other in the United
States.
