John
Gardner is the Assistant Registrar of Voters for Solano County, California. Asked for the county’s position on SB 450, a
bill now pending in the California State Assembly that would drastically re-vamp
California’s voting system, he told Etopia News: “We support it.” He went on to say, “We’re ready for a change,
and this is the start of a program that will get us there. This will help folks in our county.”
He was particularly
supportive of the weekend voting opportunities that will be provided under this
bill, which establishes a ten-day voting window prior to Election Day. The bill will consolidate voting in various “vote
centers” instead of the traditional neighborhood polling stations of yore. It will also empower Registrars of Voters to
send all registered voters in their jurisdiction an absentee/mail-in ballot.
